Code word: smile. This is what you need to approach the works of David Cesaria. Pop icons of an irreverent world, where reflection on important issues is combined with the lightness of life. Moving between painting, sculpture and design, Cesaria contaminates languages by using transmediality with a typically pop approach. Through his works he proposes a broad relational spectrum, symbolically between the smile and the grin, the joke and the provocation, the familiar and the uncanny. While entertainment is an empathic way to get in touch with the public, the glamor in the lights becomes a mechanism to move the spectator’s reflection. With a clear eye, the artist observes and interprets the obsessions of everyday life. It reports more than condemns, creating works of strong appeal, where, in the communicative power of symbols, find their true strength.
The lights talk about Puglia, his homeland, to which David feels a complicated bond of hate-love; an ambiguous relationship that in his works translates into the contrast between creative and destructive force, rational and irrational.
